Katsina Executive Council approves projects to boost state economy, reduce unemployment

The Katsina State Executive Council, Chaired by Governor Dikko Radda, held its 5th regular meeting of 2025 on Tuesday , 11th March, 2025 in Katsina.

The Council deliberated on several critical issues and approved key projects aimed at boosting economic activities, improving healthcare services, enhancing transportation, and supporting small and medium enterprises across the State.

In a press briefing, addressed shortly after the Council meeting, Dr. Sani Musa Ingawa, State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, announced the approval of “the establishment of Assembly Plant for tricycles, motor-cycles and electric bicycles in Katsina State for sales across the North-West and the procurement of 500No Tricycles for distribution to youths and associations to empower them and reduce the transportation cost across the State.

The approval also covered the provision of spare batteries and 10% discount of the actual price of the tricycle to the off takers (beneficiaries).

The Commissioner further stated that the Council approved “the construction of the Double Coat Surface Dress Road from Hajj Camp-NYSC Camp linking Daura-Mani Road (3.6KM) with a spur of (0.6KM) to Masallacin Dillalai. The approval is to open up more economic activities and provide easy transportation access for people of the area.”

Additionally, the Council approved “the change of scope from Bridge to construction of a Dam along Kunduru – Katsaka Road for the purpose of boosting irrigation activities in the area,” Dr. Ingawa added.

In the healthcare sector, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, State Commissioner of Health, announced that the Council approved “the award of the contract for upgrading of Daura Comprehensive Health Centre to a status of a General Hospital at the sum N2,463,933,161.40k. This is to provide more easy access to healthcare service for the people in the area.”

Adamu also revealed that the Council approved “the award of the contract for the Renovation and Rehabilitation of General Hospital, Mani at the sum of N999,999,871.04k. This is also in line with resolve of this administration to revitalize the healthcare sector of the State.”

Furthermore, the Council approved “the upward review of the Contract for the construction and equipping of Pharmaceutical Production Factory at General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital (GARSH) from the initial contract sum of N1,689,198,074.42k to the revised contract sum of N4,330,355,743.00k to enable the factory meet the standard as observed by NAFDAC and Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria,” the Health Commissioner stated.

On his part, Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita, State Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, announced that the Council approved “the award of the Contract for construction of Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D., CON Trade and Investment Centre within the State Secretariat Complex, as permanent Office Complex of the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA).”

The Council also approved “the transfer of One Billion Naira (N1,000,000,000) from the Matching Fund Scheme Account to the Managed Fund under the Bank of Industry to enable MSME in State easy access to financing scheme which is aimed at boosting the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs in the State,” Dr. Kaita added.

In a move to empower women in the State, the Council approved “the formulation of a State Policy to enable the allocation of 30% of intervention programmes exclusively reserve for women in the State (where applicable), based on Global and National Policies,” according to the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning.

Dr. Kaita further stated that the Council approved “the recommendations on the Report of Visitation Panel to Katsina State College of Health Sciences and Technology and Private Health Training Institutions Operating in the State and constitution of a Whitepaper Committee to advice Government on the implementation of the Committee’s Recommendations.”

Mallam Bala M. Salisu, State Commissioner for Information and Culture, announced that the Council approved “the award of the contract for the procurement of the official vehicles (Toyota Forerunner 2023 Model) for use by the newly elected local government councils chairmen and the proposed local government inspectorate department.”

The Council also ratified the procurement and distribution of essential commodities to State’s populace to enable them to observe fasting in the holy month of Ramadan with ease.”

The State Government reaffirms its commitment to implementing projects that will positively impact the lives of citizens across Katsina State.
