FUDMA students had once again taken to the streets in a renewed demonstration, demanding justice for their slain colleague, Saidu Abdulkadir, who was shot dead by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on Sunday.
The victim,a 25-year-old student from the Department of Agricultural Extension, was travelling on a commercial motorcycle with the rider, Abubakar Yusuf, 40 when they were stopped by four members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operating in a Hilux vehicle around 11:06 a.m. on Sunday at Kashe-Naira Quarters.
The duo allegedly failed to stop as ordered causing one of the CJTF operatives, whose identity remains unknown, to open fire. Abdulkadir sustained gunshot wounds to his thigh and hips, while Yusuf was hit in the thigh.
Both victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Dutsin-Ma, from where they were later referred to the Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina, where Abdulkadir succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 p.m.
Some students who felt his death was a product of a failed system stormed major roads to call for immediate intervention by relevant authorities asking for justice for their fellow students.
Report reaching us said the school management met with the protesting students on Sunday and promised to take appropriate action to ensure justice is served in this case.
However, on Monday, FUDMA students again took to the streets in a renewed demonstration, demanding justice for the slain student suspected by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to be an informant to bandits.
In response, FUDMA’s Vice-Chancellor, Armaya’u Bichi, announced the Senate’s decision to close the school in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Bichi also advised all students to vacate the campus by 6:00 p.m. on February 24.
“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break,” he said.
