The event, held at the NUJ Secretariat in Katsina, brought together prominent media professionals, government officials, and key stakeholders in the journalism industry.

Speaking as the Father of the Day, the Kanwan Katsina, District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, emphasized that radio remains the most accessible and affordable medium of communication, particularly in remote areas where television, newspapers, and the internet may not be available.

He highlighted the crucial role of radio in educating, informing, and entertaining the public, as well as fostering national unity and public enlightenment.

Reaffirming his long-standing advocacy for the establishment of new FM stations in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua to enhance grassroots communication, revenue generation, and employment opportunities, the Kanwan Katsina called on the Katsina State House of Assembly to expedite the process.

The Kanwan Katsina also called on the management of radio stations to prioritize the welfare of journalists by ensuring the timely payment of salaries and allowances, regular promotions, and access to professional training programs.

He stressed that investing in the well-being and capacity-building of journalists is essential for maintaining high standards in broadcasting and aligning with global best practices.

Addressing journalists, especially those in radio broadcasting, the Kanwan Katsina urged them to uphold professionalism, ethics, and truthfulness in their work, ensuring that their broadcasts promote peace, development, and accountability.

While congratulating award recipients at the event, he also encouraged those who did not receive awards to remain committed to excellence, noting that journalism is a profession built on consistency and impact.

The royal father commended the NUJ Katsina State Council for its dedication to celebrating World Radio Day annually, recognizing its role in honoring journalists and reinforcing the importance of radio in society.
