Operatives of katsina state police command on Sunday evening rescued fourteen passengers of a vehicle after a shoot out with bandits in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in a statement.
He gave the lowdown of the incident thus “On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hrs( 7.55 p.m), suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.
“Two (2) rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
“Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.
“The CP, while commending the officers exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charged officers to sustain the tempo. He further urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station promptly.”
