Man rapes girl, throws her inside well to conceal incident

A 24- year old man identified as Usman Mohammed Iyal, of Ambassadors quarters, Katsina has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16 year old girl and threw her inside a well to conceal his action.

According to sources, the girl  was sent on an errand before the suspect picked her up and carried put the act.

The spokesman for the Katsina police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development, adding that the girl survived the ordeal and is currently undergoing medical attention. 

The police spokesman gave the lowdown of the incident thus ” On September 27th, 2024, at about 12.16 p.m, the Katsina State Police Command  succeeded in arresting a suspected rapist for the brutal assault and attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl in Ambassadors quarters, Katsina.

“The victim was sent on an errand by her mother when the suspect, one Usman Mohammed Iyal, m, age 24 of Ambassadors quarters, armed with a knife, accosted, threatened, and dragged her into an uncompleted building where he then violently assaulted and raped the victim.

“In a desperate bid to conceal his crime, the suspect threw the victim into a nearby well and hurled stones down the well, with intent to kill the victim.

“Upon the victim’s disappearance, her father one Abdullahi Sabitu, reported the incident at the GRA divisional police headquarters, leading to swift action. 

“An investigation was immediately launched, successfully rescued the victim from the well and arrested the suspect. The victim is currently receiving medical attention. Investigation is currently ongoing.”

In a similar incident, the Command’s spokesman also disclosed that a 35 – year old woman was arrested for alleged cruelty to a two year old boy

He gave details “On September 19, 2024, at about 10 p.m, the command successfully arrested one Binta Muhammed, f, age 35, of Lungun Loma quarters, Dutsinma LGA, Katsina State, in connection with a suspected case of cruelty to a child.

“A report was received at the Dutsinma divisional police headquarters through one Halima Aliyu, f, of the International Human Rights Commission, Dutsinma Zone, that on the same date, while discharging their duties at the above-mentioned address, they received information that the suspect illegally tied and locked up a two-year-old boy in a room in a cruel manner.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized a team of detectives to the said address, where a search was conducted. The victim, One ( Abdulmajid Shafi’u,) m, age 2, was found hanging on a wall inside a room m tied with a wrapper. He was quickly rescued and rushed to the hospital, where he is receiving medical attention, and subsequently, the suspect was traced and arrested.

“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offense and would soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”

Aliyu  also revealed other arrests recently made by the  command’s operatives .

He disclosed “On 25th September, 2024, at about 05.45 a.m the command succeeded in arresting the trio of Sabi’u Hassan, m, age 34, ; Isiya Salisu, m, age 30, and (3) Aliyu Haruna, m, age 20, all of Kofar Durbi Quarters, Katsina, in connection with a suspected case of vandalism and theft. 

“While on routine patrol, a team of police operatives, in collaboration with members of the vigilante, intercepted the syndicate around Kofar Durbi quarters, in possession of some quantity of electric armored cable, a sharp pointed iron bar, and a hacksaw reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offense and further mentioned four (4) other suspects now at large as their accomplices.

“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.

“On September 22, 2024, at about 10.30 a.m, the command succeeded in arresting the trio of Sahabi Bishir, m, age 22, of Tudun Tukare Quarters;  Bishir Falalu, m, age 24, of Danmarke quarters, both of Jibia LGA; and  Isah Sani, m, age 28, of Mallamawa Mai Kasuwa Village, Batsari LGA, all of Katsina State, in connection with a suspected case of vandalism and theft.

“Operatives stationed at Faru Village, Jibia LGA, acting on intelligence successfully arrested the suspects along the Batsari-Jibia road in possession of six (6) bags of suspected vandalized and stolen aluminum wires in a bid to convey the same to Jibia LGA in a tricycle for disposal.

“During interrogation, the suspect, Isah Sani, confessed to having gotten the items from one Dahiru, now at large. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect as the investigation proceeds.

“On October 3rd, 2024, based on credible intelligence, the command successfully tracked and arrested one Usamatu Adamu, m., age 45, of Runka village, Safana LGA, Katsina state, a ward head, now residing at Sabon Gida village, Igabi LGA, Kaduna state, in connection with a suspected case of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

“The suspect (Ward Head) was arrested after a painstaking investigation following credible intelligence linking him to several kidnapping incidents in Runka, Safana LGA of the state.

“Preliminary investigations revealed his alleged involvement in the criminal conspiracy and kidnapping of (1) Abdulkarim, m, (2) Malam Sakoa, m, (3) Malam Sirajo, m, and (4) Ali, m, all of Runka village, Safana LGA. 

“The suspect confessed to the commission of the offense and further mentioned the following as his accomplices: one Rabe Sada, alias BBC, age 62, and one Nasiru Sha’aibu, age 48, all of Runka village, in giving information to one Umar, a notorious suspected armed bandits kingpin hibernating in Runka forest, Safana LGA, Katsina State. The investigation is still ongoing.”
