House of Representatives members have rejected the National honour of CFR conferred on the Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu.
In a motion of urgent public importance by a member from Benue State Mr Philip Agbese, debated by the lawmakers during a plenary session.
In his lead debate, Mr Philip Agbese, describing as discrimination against the Speaker being head of the green chamber housing about 360 members from across the country to be giving a National honour leas than that of the Chief Justice of the federation.
The lawmaker who emphasized the importance of the office of the Speaker said it is disrespectful and unacceptable for the Speaker to share the same National Award with the Deputy Senate President and some other members of the business class.
In his contribution the Minority Whip who faulted the decision called on the house to summon the Minister of Special Duties to brief the house about the development with a view to reverse the decision in the interest of unity and progress.
Also Speaking, a member from Katsina State Alhaji Sada Soli Jibia, advised the executive to always consider the gravity of the house of Representatives while taking a decision to avoid rift and confusion in dealing with other arms of government.
On his part, a member from Kano State Alhaji Abdulmumini Jibril, said although the house was not in confrontation with the executive arm but there is the need for them to be guided while commenting something that has to do with the discretion of the President to avoid misleading the people.
Other members who contributed during the debate on the motion expressed their dissatisfaction with the CFR National Award conferred on the Speaker as the high ranking member of the army of the Nigeria’s arms of government.
After a debate the house resolved to constitute an ad hoc committee comprising principal officers and members of the caucus to investigate the matter report back to the house in three days.
