Radda receives power sector reform framework from USAID

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda  has received a groundbreaking policy framework aimed at revolutionizing the state’s electricity market. 

The development is a result of collaborative efforts between the Katsina State Government and the Power Africa Nigeria Power Sector Program (PA-NPSP), a USAID initiative.

In a formal ceremony held at the Katsina State House in Abuja on Friday, the USAID and Power Africa team presented Governor Radda with key documents including a finalized policy framework, an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) framework, and a comprehensive capacity assessment document.

A statement from Governor Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed  explained that the policy framework, a culmination of extensive month-long consultations with government agencies, private sector entities, and academic institutions in Katsina, addresses critical areas such as: Load forecasting, Generation planning, Transmission planning, Distribution planning, Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) framework and Katsina State Electricity Market Policy framework

The Deputy Mission Director at USAID/Nigeria, Jason Taylor explained at the occasion ,the significance of the initiative in enhancing access to reliable and affordable electricity across Katsina State.

Governor Radda expressed profound gratitude for the support provided by USAID and Power Africa. 

He stated, “This comprehensive framework represents a significant step towards ensuring sustainable and efficient power supply in Katsina State. We are committed to implementing these strategies to improve the lives of our citizens.”

The Governor further affirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding its partnership with USAID beyond the power sector, expressing interest in future collaborations in the health sector, amongst others. 

Among those present at the ceremony were Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, Special Adviser to the Governor on Power & Energy, and Maryam Musa Yahaya, Executive Director, Development Partners of the Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB).

The statement added “This initiative reflects the Katsina State Government’s vision for sustainable development and improved quality of life for its residents through enhanced access to reliable electricity.”
