Security operatives in Katsina State have rescued eight female victims and a young boy who were kidnapped in a recent attack on Unguwar Awa Village, Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Security and Internal Affairs, Muazu Danmusa made the disclosure on Friday in a statement.
He disclosed that a distress call was received from the community on September 13, 2024 at 6:30 a.m that bandits had invaded the village, firing indiscriminately and eventually abducting the victims.
According to him, a team of Police Officers from the Malumfashi Division of the Katsina State Command, supported by the Katsina State Community Watch and military personnel, swiftly responded and intercepted the kidnappers near Burdugau Village.
The Commissioner further revealed that a fierce gun battle ensued around the village, forcing the bandits to flee under heavy fire.
He added that the kidnapped victims were subsequently secured and reunited with their families.
Danmusa declared ” The Katsina State Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its residents and will continue to work tirelessly with the security forces to combat crime and apprehend those responsible for such heinous acts across the state.”
