Katsina police team in fierce gun duel with bandits, rescues kidnapped victims

Operatives of the katsina state police command who were on routine patrol along Danmusa/ Dutsinma highway on Saturday foiled a kidnap attempt by bandits  and rescued two victims in the process.

The victims  were rescued few minutes after ten in the morning after the operatives  received information on their ordeal. 

The  Command spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development on Sunday.

He explained” In a sustained onslaught against acts of kidnapping and banditry in the state, operatives of the command, under the able leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Katsina Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, while on routine patrol along Danmusa to Dutsinma highway, successfully foiled a bandit kidnapping attempt and rescued two (2) kidnapped victims.

“On 31st August, 2024, at about 10.00 a.m, information was intercepted at the Danmusa Divisional Police Headquarters that suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked the outskirt of Gandun Sarki village, Danmusa LGA, and kidnapped two (2) people.

“Instantaneously, the DPO Danmusa dispatched a patrol team to the scene, where they successfully engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

“The assailants succumbed to the superior firepower of the patrol team and fled the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries, as the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt.

“In the course of scanning the scene, one (1) operational motorcycle of the bandits was recovered from the scene.”

The Command spokesman similarly revealed that on the 30th of August, 2024, at about 5.15 p.m, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters on a bandits attack at Kwanar Makera Bridge, Jibia LGA.

According to him, the DPO for the area mobilized a team of operatives and responded to the scene. 

The team reportedly  engaged the bandits in a gun duel, successfully foiled the attack, and rescued a kidnapped victim.

The rescued victim was thereafter  rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to a gunshot injury sustained on his left leg as a result of the bandits attack.

Aliyu added that efforts were being intensified to arrest fleeing suspects while investigation proceeds.

He declared “The  CP, while reiterating the command’s commitment towards ensuring a safer Katsina State, commended the officers for a job well done and urged them to sustain the tempo.”
