The NYSC Katsina State new Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim SAIDU on Wednesday, 21st August, 2024 embarked on tour of the State to brief major stakeholders on the challenges the Scheme was facing in the State.
The first point of call was the office of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development Alhaji Aliyu LAWAL Zakari.
The Commissioner who is also the Chairman NYSC Katsina State Governing Board received the Coordinator with a high level of excitement and joy. It was like old friends discovering themselves after a long time.
The Commissioner was optimistic that the State Government will attend to the issues presented by the Coordinator and promised that the Ministry as the Chair body of the NYSC in the State will give maximum, unalloyed cooperation and support to the State Coordinator NYSC to achieve the required success.
Alhaji LAWAL Zakari promised to lead the team of his top management staff that will take the NYSC Coordinator to the State Governor for what he called a new NYSC foundation in the State.
Earlier, the Coordinator informed the Commissioner that Corps Members were running away from the State for many reasons.
He said that in the Orientation camp, there are no mattresses for the Corps Members to sleep and that the last time mattresses were supplied to the camp was in 2013 which are still been managed in the camp till date, lack of State intervention funds for Corps Members and good accommodation in their places of primary assignments as most of the lodges built for Corps Members by past governments have been taken over and reallocated to other establishments.
The NYSC Boss mentioned that the only existing Corps Members lodge was in dilapidated state and requires massive renovation and many other challenges .
Alhaji Ibrahim requested the Commissioner to intervene as most of the demands were the statutory responsibilities of their State Government .
Another place of visit same Wednesday was the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army, Katsina State where the Brigade Commander , Brig Gen A. O. Fadairo said that although he had been redeployed to another Army formation in the country, the relationship between the Brigade and the NYSC in Katsina State was like that of the Siamese twins that cannot be easily separated
The Brigade Commander affirmed that the robust relationship will continue with the officer taking over from him.
He then introduced the new Brigade Commander who also promised to accord the NYSC high priority.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator had thanked the Brigade Commander for the synergy and assistance in terms of caring for Corps Members and providing required assistance for the NYSC at any point of need.
Alhaji Ibrahim requested that the cordial relationship be extended to his tenure.
In the State Coordinator’s entourage were the Assistant Director HRM Mr Allen Chisom Charles, Assistant Director PRS Alhaji Aliyu Sani, Assistant Director Corps Discipline and Reward Alhaji Mohammad Birniwa Mohammad. Head of Finance and Accounts Alhaji Abubakar Kwajafa and the Head of SAED Alhaji Nurudeen Mannir.
