The Maiden edition of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu National U-18 Boys Peace Football Tournament has begun in Katsina.
Governor Dikko Radda opened the competition at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Ekiti, Kwara, FCT, and Katsina were among the states represented at the tournament’s opening ceremony, with many more state on the way.
Governor Radda, represented by the State Sports Commissioner Aliyu Lawal Zakari, declared the competition open and promised the participating states of their safety throughout their stay in Katsina State.
The Governor stated that hosting the competition is part of the present administration’s strategy for boosting sporting activities in the state.
Radda used the occasion to thank the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) for organizing the competition, which allows youths to showcase their ability and talents.
He encouraged all participating states to be polite and exhibit sportsmanship in order to achieve their goals.
The National Vice President of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Alhaji Mustapha Allah-Dey extended gratitude to the Katsina State Government for sponsoring and hosting the competition.
Allah-Dey disclosed that the competition is being organized to honor President Bola Tinubu for his contributions to the growth of all sporting activities in the country.
He noted that the competition also provides an opportunity for young skilled players in the country to demonstrate their abilities and talent, as scouts are on hand to select the finest among them.
Highlights of the opening ceremony included march past by the participating states.
