A total of 59 major crime cases were reported at the Katsina state police command from 1st to 29th February, 2024, leading to the arrest of one hundred and eighty-eight (188) suspects in the period.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu made the revelation in katsina on Tuesday evening at a press conference.
He said the crimes included
armed robbery, kidnapping, culpable homicides and cattle rustling, among others.
He said out of the number, 49 were charged to court .
Aliyu gave further breakdown of the figures to include thirteen (13) suspected Armed Robbers; Twelve (12) murder suspects; Nineteen (19) suspected rapist and 42 arrested for other various offences.
He also disclosed that operatives of the command rescued seventy-two (72) kidnapped victims, and recovered five hundred and sixty-two (562) rustled animals during the period.
On specifics, the command’s spokesman mentioned the case of a 20 year old man he described as notorious car thief, one Mustapha Abba of Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.
Aliyu gave details of his arrest “The command succeeded in arresting one Mustapha Abba ‘m’, aged 20 years, of Malumfashi L.G.A., Katsina State, a suspected notorious car thief, in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle.
On the 20, February, 2024, at about 8.a.m, a report was received at Area Command Funtua, through one Nura Hussaini ‘m’ of Kasuwar Mata Quarters Funtua, that on the 19, February, 2024, at about 10.30 p.m, he parked his motor vehicle, the Golf 3 Saloon, with registration number USL 31 AG, at the front of his house with the above-mentioned address and discovered it stolen from where it was parked the following morning.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives were promptly drafted to investigate the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the motor vehicle. During the course of the investigation, the above-mentioned suspect was tracked and arrested at Zaria Road, Kano Local Government Area, in possession of the suspected stolen vehicle. During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence and further stated that he conspired with one Aliyu Haladu, ‘m’, 38, of Kasuwar Mata quarters, Funtua, and Ashiru Ibrahim, ‘m’, now at large, to commit the offence. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects as investigation proceeds.”
Aliyu also revealed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers which he said,was done in collaboration with the FCT Police Command during the period under review.
