Operatives of the Katsina police command killed no fewer than eleven suspected bandits in January, 2025.
The operatives also arrested 45 suspects in 52 reported major crimes in the state during the period.
These were the highlights of the press conference by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Aliyu Abubakar on the achievements of its operatives during the period under review.
Aliyu said the command would not relent in its efforts at tackling activities of criminals in the state.
Details of the press conference :” As we continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the good people of the state, I am proud to report that our efforts are yielding significant results.
“Within the period under review, a total number of forty-five (45) suspects were arrested in connection with fifty-two (52) reported major crimes, including armed robbery, culpable homicide, kidnapping, and rape, among others. Four (4) suspected kidnappers, six (6) culpable homicide suspects, seven (7) armed robbery suspects, three (3) suspected informants to bandits, and thirty-two (32) suspects in connection with offenses not mentioned above were arrested.
” Additionally, the command has succeeded in neutralizing eleven (11) suspected armed bandits, rescuing eighty-five (85) kidnapped victims, and recovering two hundred and thirteen (213) suspected rustled animals. Also,
- Four (4) rounds of AK 47 live ammunition,
- Three (3) motorcycles,
- Five (5) vandalized street solar lights,
- Two (2) machetes and two (2) sharp knives,
- One (1) digger,
- Some quantity of vandalized armored cables,
Were recovered within the period under review as exhibits.
I want to commend our officers and men for their hard work and dedication to duty. Our achievements this month are a testament to their tireless efforts in ensuring a safer Katsina state.

“ARREST OF TWO SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS
The command has succeeded in arresting two (2) suspected kidnappers who abducted two (2) minors in Faskari LGA of the state and demanded the sum of six (6) million naira ransom from their families
“The suspects, one (1) Yahaya Sani, m, age 45, and (2) Ikra Aminu, m, age 22, of Bilbis village, Tsafe LGA of Zamfara state, were arrested after a thorough investigation and tracking of the phone number they used to demand ransom.
“On January 17, 2025, the two minors, one Amir Abubakar, m, age 6, and one Abba Abubakar, m, age 9, all of Faskari LGA, Katsina State, were abducted by the suspects. The suspects subsequently contacted the families of the victims via GSM, demanding a ransom in exchange for their safe release.
“Upon receipt of the report, immediately our operatives swung into action, successfully tracked the phone number used by the suspects to demand ransom, leading to their arrest.
“During investigation, the suspects confessed to have conspired with the following suspects, (1) Dan Garba Bilbis, m, (2) Yusuf Hayin Gada, m, and (3) Hamisu Dinkin Bado, m, now at large as their conspirators. Investigation is still ongoing.”
“POLICE ARREST SUSPECT FOR ATTEMPTED CULPABLE HOMICIDE AND BESTIALITY
On the 31st January, 2025, at about 2200 hrs, the command has successfully arrested one Umar Lawal, m, age 18, of Ibrahim Coomassie road, GRA Katsina, in connection with a suspected case of attempt to commit culpable homicide by poisoning the food of his intended target. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had also committed bestiality on three separate occasions.
“The suspect had laced the victim’s food with rat poison substance. Fortunately, the victim became suspicious and did not consume the food.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had also engaged in bestiality with animals on three separate occasions, an offence which contravene section 214 of the penal code. Investigation is ongoing.”
“POLICE BURST TWO SYNDICATES OF SUSPECTED VANDALS AND THIEVES; RECOVERED EXHIBITS.
The command has successfully busted two syndicates of suspected vandals and thieves in connection with a case of vandalisation and theft of armoured cables in Batagarawa and Mashi Local Government Areas of the state.
The suspects,
- Habibu Ibrahim, age 55, of Makada village,
- Abdullahi Salisu, m, age 30, Dabaibayawa village, all of Batagarawa LGA, and
- Sani Lawai, m, age 25, of Sabuwar Unguwa quarters, Katsina State. (3-man syndicate
- Lawai Ibrahim, m, age 27, Rimi LGA, and
- Lawal Badamasi, m., age 25, of Kofar Marusa quarters, Katsina State. (2-man syndicate)
were arrested on the 21st of January, 2025, following a tip-off on the activities of the syndicates who had been terrorising the two LGAs during a sting operation as a large quantity of armoured cables and a plier used for their illegal operations were recovered in their possession.
“During the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned one Lamma, m., and one Ibrahim, m., now at large, as their conspirators.
“Efforts are being made to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.”
