A Max Air flight from Lagos reportedly crash-landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport late Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 10:57 p.m. when the airplane reportedly lost its nose landing gear tyre which bursted into flames during landing.

According to one of the passengers aboard the flight who recounted the harrowing experience that “Immediately after touchdown, the tyre burst and caught fire. The aircraft then skidded to a halt on the runway.”

However, no casualties were reported but the runway is temporarily closed for inspection following the incident while the aircraft has been safely evacuated by the crew.

In a statement on Wednesday, Max Air confirmed the incident stating that the aircraft has been removed as their Engineering department stay on top of the situation.

The statement reads, “We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday. Our crew handled the situation professionally, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew members. There were no injuries, and the aircraft has since been removed from the runway as of 04:28.

“As a result, the Kano runway will remain temporarily closed for inspection and clearance, which may lead to some delays in flight operations today, Wednesday, 29/01/2025. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we await further updates on the runway reopening.

“We will keep you informed on the status of flight schedules,” it added.
