UNILORIN Trains 21 Students On AI – Prof Egbewole

At least 21 students have been trained by the University of Ilorin on the use of Artificial Intelligence to improve their skills on innovation.

In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole SAN, says that effort are on to sponsor 500 students in due course.

According to it the theme of this year’s International Day of education ” ‘AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation’,” aligned perfectly with the giant strides of the University in the area of Artificial Intelligence.

Professor Egbewole says the University recognised the critical role education plays in preparing future leaders to navigate the evolving landscape.

It explains that the commitment of the university is to equip the students with the knowledge and skills needed to harness the potentials of AI for societal progress”.

The Vice Chancellor says the training were aimed at encouraging the beneficiaries to acquire and expand needed skills in the exploration and deployment of Artificial Intelligence for innovations and future career progression.

The statement notes that the University of Ilorin has been at the forefront of promoting excellence in education and community development.

It says that the University currently runs a SMART Agenda, which emphasises the use of technology to enhance teaching, learning, and research.”

The Vice chancellor maintains that the university has made a significant strides in the area of Artificial Intelligence and also invested heavily in digital infrastructure, including a state-of-the-arts data centre and a robust network that supports online learning.

It says plans are on to establish a Centre for Artificial Intelligence already in advanced stage, with Centre for Cybersecyrity and COMSIT currently coordinating the AI endeavours of the University.
