The katsina police command has commenced investigation into last Tuesday incident where members of local security outfits including operatives of state Community Watch Corps and vigilante members were attacked by gunmen suspected to be bandits leading to the death of 21 people.
According to the police command, the security operatives were returning from a condolence visit at Baure village, Safana Local Government Area of the state when the incident happened.
The spokesman for the command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the incident.
He explained that following the attack, operatives of the command mobilized to repel the gunmen.
His words “On January 7th, 2025, in Baure village, Safana LGA, Katsina State, some suspected armed bandits attacked a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilante members, who were returning from a condolence visit.
“The incident occurred at about 4.30 p.m, prompting a swift response from police operatives attached to Safana Divisional Headquarters who rushed to the scene and restored normalcy.
“Sadly, twenty-one (21) persons were fatally shot as a result of the attack.
“Efforts are currently being made to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act, further developments will be communicated in due course as the investigation proceeds.”
