Usman Hudu, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Katsina state Governor on Disabled Matters, has assured people living with disabilities in Katsina state that the state Governor, Dikko Umar Radda will soon approve the establishment of Disabled Commission in the state.
Usman Hudu stated this in an interview with news men in Katsina assuring that the state’s House of Assembly has passed into Law the bill for the establishment of the Disabled Commission in the state and the governor will soon assent to it.
In his own words, he said, “Interestingly, the bill has been passed into law by the Katsina state House of Assembly and is now before our amiable Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda whom I am optimistic that he will soon assent to it and direct for the commission’s establishment, which we expect before the end of this year”.
He further said, “My office is working round the clock toward ensuring that this commission has come to reality in this state.”
He explained that “if established, the commission will ensure budgetary provisions that cater for all matters that relate to the well being of people living with disabilities”.
The Senior Special Assistant pointed out that as of now his office neither has budget nor overhead but the Governor supports the day to day activities of his office even before considering the commission’s establishment.
He disclosed that the state government has already directed that the abandoned rehabilitation centers for the disabled persons within the state be revisited in order to rehabilitate and upgrade them so that disable persons can have a place to learn and acquire various skills in order to become self reliant and leave begging on the streets.
Usman Hudu reiterated that, “We are going round the state to find out the situation of the centres and we have now taken census of all persons with special needs across the atate, forms have been sent to every local government areas for them to fill it.
“All these the Governor is doing is to ensure that the life of every person with special need is supported and uplifted.”
He called on all the people with special needs in the state to cooperate with the current census exercise in order to give the state government better opportunity to improve their lives and make them productive people in the society.
Sani Idris, SA Media, Jibia local government, confirmed to KatsinaMirror over the telephone that the People Living with Disability enumeration forms had reached the local government areas but people are not coming up for it because they are not aware of the government plans. Meanwhile, he promised to look for a way to create awareness in his own local government as well as encourage other local government to follow suit.
