1 dies as Katsina police, security operatives rescue 6 bandits victims

A man identified as Rabe Mai Shayi on Saturday night died after operatives of the state police command along with other security personnel rescued six kidnapped victims in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

Mai Shayi died while receiving treatment after he and other five victims were rescued from bandits on that night.

The spokesman for the command ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.

He said the bandits had earlier stormed Unguwar Batsaka, quarters in Jibia township where they, among others, kidnapped the six victims. 

The spokesman said the swift intervention of the police operatives along with other security personnel led to the rescue of the victims .

He added that Mai Shayi however died while receiving treatment after their rescue.

Abubakar gave further explanation “On October 19th, 2024, at about 11.23 p.m, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters on a bandits’ attack on Unguwar Batsaka quarters in Jibia township, in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically with intent to kidnap some residents of the quarters.

“Swiftly, the DPO Jibia mobilised a team of operatives in collaboration with the military, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and vigilantes to the scene, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted about an hour, forcing the bandits to flee the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries.

“The team successfully rescued six (6) kidnapped victims and were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to injuries sustained as a result of the bandits attack. 

“Regrettably, one of the victims, simply identified as Rabe Mai Shayi, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Further development will be communicated in due course, please.

“We urge anyone with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report at the nearest police station for timely and decisive action.”

    Just hope the police are saying the truth in their reports because all my encounters with police prove that they always twist information to please their paymasters
