Security operatives in Katsina State have rescued six victims after foiling kidnap in Jibia and Faskari Local Government Areas of the state.
The spokesman for the Katsina police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development on Sunday.
He explained the developments thus “Today, ( Saturday) September 28th, 2024, at about 8.15 a.m., a distress call was received at Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters regarding an attempted kidnapping on the Jibia-Kauran Namoda road, Katsina State.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, immediately responded to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
“Four (4) kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack.
“Similarly, at about 7.00a.m, Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call regarding an attempted kidnapping on the Funtua-Gusau road at Unguwar Boka village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State.
“Promptly responding to the scene, police operatives attached to Faskari, in collaboration with the military, engaged the assailants in a gun duel.
“Regrettably, the assailants fatally shot one of the victims during the attack. However, two (2) kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt.”
Aliyu said efforts were “being intensified to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators as the investigation proceeds.”
