Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Katsina State on Saturday, 7th September 2024 received sensitization lecture on fire outbreak, it’s safety tips and causes.
A Superintendent of Fire, Mr Fidelis A. from the Federal Fire Service, Katsina facilitated the lecture .
Addressing the Corps Members, he highlighted the diverse causes of fire, ranging from negligence to deliberate acts.
Mr Fidelis categorized fire into simple, gas-related, and those involving metals. He stressed the importance of knowing how to combat each type of fire effectively.
During the lecture, he demonstrated how to extinguish fire using the Fire Extinguisher and the fire blanket
He showed the techniques, including starving the fire of oxygen and cooling methods etc.
He emphasized the proper use of fire extinguishers, outlining the steps such as removing safety pins, squeezing the nuzzles and directing extinguisher pipes.
Some Corps Members also took part in the demonstration on fire prevention and control.
The NYSC Katsina spokesman, Alex Oboaemeta remarked in a statement that with the practical knowledge shared, the Corps Members were better equipped with information on how to prevent and effectively tackle fire incidents.
