The Katsina police command has arrested no fewer than 22 suspects for various offences including theft and vandalism.
The command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, on Friday, confirmed the arrest.
He gave details of the arrest thus “As part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat theft and vandalism of public and private property in the state, the Katsina State Police Command has successfully arrested twenty-two (22) suspected thieves and vandals and recovered various exhibits.
“On 24th August, 2024, at about 5.15 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting the trio of: Hamza Lawal alias Honorouble, m, age 23, of Sabon Titin Kwado; Safiyanu Usman alias ASP, m, age 27, of Tudun Matawalle via Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, and Mariya Adamu, f, age 40, of Dandagoro quarters, Batagarawa LGA, all of Katsina State, in connection with a suspected case of criminal house trespass and theft, recovered suspected stolen items.
“The suspects were arrested following the receipt of a report on their nefarious activity at GRA Katsina divisional Police headquarters through one Ahmed Muhammed, m, of Kofar Marusa quarters, that the suspects criminally conspired and trespassed into a house situated at Modoji quarters, Katsina, and stole the following items:
Freezer; Three (3) Plasma TVs ; One HP computers; A set of dining tables; A set of chairs; Two (2) drawers; Two (2) mattresses; Two (2) sets of home theaters; Four (4) sets of complete inverters; Three (3) sets of air conditioners and one max generator, all valued at ten million naira (₦10,000,000.00).
“Promptly, detectives swung into action, successfully traced and arrested the suspects. In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offense and further mentioned one Aminu Masa, m. Tsohuwar Low-cost, Katsina, now at large, as their accomplice and one Mariya Adamu, f., age 40, of Dandagoro quarters, Batagarawa LGA, as the receiver of their stolen properties.
“Efforts are being intensified with a view to arresting the fleeing suspect as the investigation proceeds.
“Consequently, on the 4th of September, 2024, at about 1.p.m, based on credible intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting a twelve (12) man gang of notorious vandalizers of armored electric cables that specialized in terrorizing the Katsina metro.
“The suspects: Abubakar Ibrahim, m., age 29; Muh’d Isah, m, age 18; Aliyu Hamisu, m, age 17; Ahmed Aminu, m, age 19; Yusuf Abdulkarim, m, age 18; Ibrahim Abdurrahman, m, age 17; Ibrahim Mustapha, m., age 29; Ibrahim Bala, m, age 31; Imrana Umar, m, age 16; Ahmed Abdulkadir, m., age 28; Usman Ibrahim, m, age 26, all of Sha’iskawa quarters, Katsina, were arrested following the receipt of a report through a good Samaritan on their nefarious activities at Shaiskawa quarters, Katsina.
“Promptly, the DPO CPS KTN dispatched a patrol team to the scene, where they succeeded in arresting the suspects, and bundles of suspected vandalized electric cables, iron rods, hammer, and an axe were recovered from their possession as exhibits.
“In the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offense and further mentioned the following suspects: Ibrahim Muazu, m; Zainu Nasiru, m; Abdulwahab alias Ataye, m; Uzaifa Kabir, m; Ibrahim Aminu, m; Aliyu Rabe, m; Abdurrashid Dalhatu, m., age 42; all of Sha’iskawa quarters, Katsina, all at large, as their accomplices, and one Aminu Manya-Manya as the receiver of their stolen properties.
“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.
“Additionally, Today, ( Thursday)5th September 2024, at about 2 a.m, personnel attached to the Sabon Garin Katsina Divisional Police Headquarters while on routine patrol along Kofar Marusa to Kiddies roundabout successfully arrested six (6) suspected notorious vandals.
“The suspects: Ibrahim Yunusa, m., age 30; Usman Yunusa, m, age 29; Umar Mahadi, alias Babba, m, age 25; Abdulrahman Yunusa, alias Abdul, m, age 19; Abdullahi Mahadi, m. alias Baban Walid; Muktar Aliyu, m, age 27, all of Kofar Marusa quarters, Katsina, were intercepted at Kofar Marusa quarters suspected to have vandalized the Kofar Marusa drainage, as fifty-one full-length 10mm and 16mm of suspected vandalized iron rods were recovered in their possession. Suspects confessed to the commission of the offense.
