HOODLUMS INVADES MI WUSHISHI HOUSING ESTATE IN NIGER LOOKING FOR GOLD

Hoodlums in their numbers have invaded the MI Wushishi housing estate in Minna, Niger state and destroyed properties of residents.

According to reports the number of houses that were broken into is yet to be ascertained while six cars were destroyed.

It was also confirmed that the hoodlums entered the area in daylight  yesterday when most of the household have gone to work and only women and children were at home.

The hoodlums who were said to be illegal gold miners in the area had earlier threatened the residents that they should watch out for their return, and advised them to leave their homes.

Some residents who spoke to Newsmen said several requests have been made to the commissioner of police to come to the aid of the area, although they confirmed that the police has been supportive but there is the need for much more to be done and called on Niger State Government to come to their aid by putting MI Wushishi housing estate in a spotlight as the activities of such miners is becoming worrisome.

When contacted Police Public Relations Officer Niger state command Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that the police received a distress call that suspected illegal miners/thugs engaged in a fight and were attacking housing at MI Wushishi housing estate in Minna.

According to him the police patrol teams led by DPO Maitumbi moved to the scene and the miscreants were dispatched , however one person among the gangs whose identity is still unknown was killed during the raid and has been taken to general hospital morgue.

Meanwhile normalcy has been restored and investigation is ongoing to arrest the assailants.
