The Katsina state police command has assured of safety of Katsina residents as it debunks report of weekend’s bandits attempted attacks in Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu made public in Katsina on Sunday, insisted that the reported bandits’ attack in the council was unfounded.
The statement read “The Katsina State Police Command is aware of a mischievous report making the rounds on social media, especially WhatsApp, suggesting a bandit attempted attack on the Katsina Metro, movement around Ummaru Musa Yaradua University, Katsina.
“This report in its entirety is untrue, baseless and misleading.
“Contrary to the misinformation, on August 17th, 2024, at about 10.20 p.m, information was received at the Batagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters, through the Chairman Batagarawa LGA and the village head of Kwarin Mai Koso village, Batagarawa LGA, that armed bandits were indeed sighted riding on seven (7) motorcycles from Dutsen Kura village, Batsari LGA, towards Kwarin Mai Kwaro village, Batagarawa LGA.
“Upon receipt of the information, quickly, the DPO mobilized the APC patrol team in collaboration with members of the vigilante to Kwarin Mai Kwaro village and reinforce the existing security arrangements at the village.
“Notably, the bandits, aware of the measures employed, abandoned their heinous intention and diverted to an unknown destination. Thanks to the swift and proactive measures employed by the command, the potential attack was deterred, and the area was secured. However, patrols and monitoring have been sustained.
“We urge members of the public, especially the good people of Katsina, not to panic, disregard the false report in circulation, and go about their lawful activities as the Katsina State Police Command remains committed towards securing the state and protecting its citizens.”
