Katsina police arrest 2, on trail of fleeing bandits’ kingpin

Operatives of Katsina police command in collaboration with members of other security agencies have arrested two men for aiding and abetting banditry.

The security team is also on the trail of a man alleged to be a bandits’ kingpin.

The spokesman for the state’s police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development on Thursday.

He revealed that the two men were arrested on Thursday morning during a patrol.

Aliyu explained ” In a sustained effort by the Katsina State Police Command, under the able leadership of CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, in the fight against armed banditry, has succeeded in arresting two (2) for aiding and abetting banditry and recovered suspected rustled animals.

“On July 25, 2024, at about 10.15 a.m, a team of police operatives attached to Jibia divisional police headquarters while on a routing patrol in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and Hunters at Jibia LGA successfully arrested the duo of Abubakar Yahaya, age 35 years, and Muhammadu Ayatullahi, age 25, both of Zandam village, Jibia LGA of the state, at along Magama cemetery in possession of two (2) rams, one (1) sheep, and a goat, suspected to have been rustled.

“In the course of the investigation, the duo confessed to having received the rustled animals from one Nura, of Mazanya village, now at large, a suspected notorious bandit leader, and are on their way to dispose of the animals at Magama Market, Jibia LGA. They further confessed to having severally received suspected rustled animals from the bandit kingpin and disposed of them.

” Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect as the investigation proceeds.”
