Katsina state government is to partner with foreign and indigenous companies to establish an independent power plant in katsina.
This is to generate electricity that would guarantee constant power supply for domestic use and industrial growth.
The General Manager of the state Rural electrification board, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi Matazu confirmed this while briefing journalists after he was conducted round ongoing installation of hybrid solar-powered mini grid at Government House katsina.
He said the solar power project was an immediate measure adopted by Governor Radda led administration towards addressing power outage and reduce the cost of diesel used for smooth operations at both the Government House and Katsina General hospital.
The General Manager observed that power outage had been compounding the effective service delivery particularly at the General hospitals, hence the need for the state government to resort to solar power system for uninterrupted service delivery to patients.
Alhaji Abubakar Matazu assured that the solar powered project would cover all the General Hospitals across the state, adding that public schools would follow.
He however said three primary health care centers in each of the thirty – four local governments are being connected with the solar power system.
Already, he said provision for the provision of solar system for the General Hospitals was made in the supplementary budget passed by the state Assembly. Conducting the General manager round the project site, the sub contractor, Technologist Abdullahi Bature assured of timely completion of the project as agreed.
He said one megawatt would be generated for katsina Government House while that of General Hospital would reach up to two hundred and fifty kilowatts.
Bature however said the two projects which served as pilot ones, would serve as an opener in ensuring constant power supply in the state.
