Katsina State Ministry of Health in collaboration with Ministry of Finance have organized a multi-stakeholder workshop on nutrition.

The program to improve nutritional outcomes in Nigeria, Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria project (ANRiN) at the Katsina State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry of Budget and Planning have organized a special discussion with stakeholders including the parliament.

Katsina State, Katsina State Local Government Leaders Association to raise awareness on the importance of nutrition issues in the local government budget of Katsina State.

Speaker of Katsina State Legislative Assembly, Alhaji Nasir Yahaya Daura, while speaking at the opening of the meeting, affirmed that the Katsina State Parliament is committed to supporting government agencies and development partners in improving the lives of our people.

According to him, they understand the importance of nutrition to improve the lives of our people, especially children and women. 

He commends the office of ANRiN and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for their efforts in organizing this workshop. 

Also in his speech, the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning of Katsina State, Hon. Bello Kagara, explained the benefits of nutritious food for children, who testified that the government of Katsina state since its inception, has contributed to the development in this area.

At the event the head of the ANRiN program in katsina state, Dr. Umar Bello, explained the purpose of the workshop to increase awareness and sensitize the stakeholders, especially the heads of local governments in Katsina state, on the importance of allocating a significant portion of the budget for nutrition of local governments because of its importance for young children. 

He testified that this program aims to increase the consumption of good nutritious food for pregnant and lactating women. 

He stated that 18 local governments in Katsina comprising 188 primary health centers are currently benefiting from the program.

Some of the services provided by the program include the provision of vitamin A for children under the age of five, folic acid for pregnant women, ORS acid for diarrhea prevention, etc.

Those who contributed to the discussion at the workshop included the Commissioner of the Ministry of Local Government in Katsina State, Professor Badamasi Charanchi, a representative of voluntary organizations, the Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Katsina State Assembly, Alhaji Lawal Jikamshi and others.

The Katsina state legislature during the review has assured that it will give every contribution in making a law that will improve the matter of nutritious food for children in Katsina state.
