Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly killed no fewer than twenty-four persons in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Several other residents were also wounded in the attack which occurred on Thursday night.
Residents revealed that those killed were mostly vigilante members who came out to confront the bandits during the attack.
A local security official revealed that the attack which started around 9 p.m and lasted over one hour.
He added that four villages namely Unguwar Sarkin Noma, Gangara, Tafi, and Kore were attacked by the gunmen.
Residents further described the attack as reprisals by the gunmen over military offensives on the bandits’ hideouts in the council area.
The Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Area, Faruq Dalhatu, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday.
He said 23 victims were buried on Friday morning.
The state police command was yet to react to the incident as at Saturday night.
