Katsina state on Sunday revealed members of the newly formed task force to tackle current food hoarding and high prices in the state.
The twenty- seven member committee is chaired by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Jabiru Tsauri.
Other members are : the state Attorney General & Commissioner of Justice;
Commissioner for Information and culture and
Commissioner for Internal Security & Home Affairs.
Others include representative of the Nigerian Army; representative of the Nigeria Police; representative of the DSS; representative of the NSCDC; representative of the NIS; representative of the NCS; representative
of the NDLEA ; representative of the FRSC and the State Commander, Community Watch Corps (CWC).
The rest are Secretary, State Anti Corruption Commission;
State Commander, Hisba;
representative of Katsina Emirate Council; representative of Daura Emirate Council ; representative of DG KASSAROTA; representative of JIBWIS; representative of JNI; representative of Munazzamatu Fityanil Islam ; representative of Council of Ulama ; representative of
-Associations of Grains Sellers & Dealers ; representative of State Traders Union ; representative of NURTW and
representative of NARTO.
The Governor’s Office is to provide Secretariat.
A statement by Director of Press, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua for the Secretary to the Government of the State made public in katsina on Sunday also spelt out the terms of reference for the task force members.
The terms, according to the statement are, “to Identify food commodity hoarders within the State; engage with stakeholders on food prices in the state; In collaboration with Security Agencies, arrest and prosecute violators of this Order; Control the buying and transporting of food commodities within and outside the state, including international borders; Do all other things incidental or necessary for the enforcement of the provisions of this Order”.
The statement added that the Committee is expected to be inaugurated on Wednesday, 21, February, 2024 at the Council’s Chamber, Government House, Katsina .
Governor Dikko Radda had on Friday , approved a Taskforce (Committee) which would ensure strict compliance with the Food Security (promotion), Order prohibiting the hoarding of food and essential commodities within the state.
