The Katsina Izalah Eye Foundation in collaboration with a philanthropist, Aliyu Garba Kankara, have successfully completed the surgical operations of 125 patients in Katsina State.
The chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Ibrahim Dabo Bujawa, disclosed on Wednesday that after the group carried out 51 of the operations at Katsina Eye centre in Katsina metropolis.
A statement issued at the end of the exercise by the spokesman of the eye foundation, Hassan Muhammad Tukur, said Garba Kankara had recently through the Izalah Eye Foundation sponsored the operations of 74 eye patients in Malumfashi zone.
According to the statement, during the exercise in Malumfashi, 96 eye patients drawn from Malumfashi, Kafur and Kankara Local Government Areas received medicated glasses while 219 others received various medications.
Dabo Bujawa further disclosed that the exercise was sponsored by former permanent secretary in the state turned philanthropist and a member of Katsina Izalah Eye Foundation, Garba Kankara.
He revealed that the 51 beneficiaries of the eye surgeries in Katsina township were selected from the 34 local governments across the state.
He also expressed happiness with the collaborative effort between Katsina Izalah Eye Foundation and the management of Katsina Eye Centre, which made it feasible to achieve the feat.
The Medical Director of the Eye Centre, Dr Ahmed Tijjani Hamza Kofar Bai, who was represented by the Director of Nursing Services in the centre , Hajiya Jamilatu Haruna, expressed gratitude to Izalah Eye Foundation for the sustained collaboration in restoring the sight of a huge number of people in the state.
She appealed to the leadership of the foundation to team up with the eye centre in the advocacy programmes to enlighten parents to be aware of the eye problems of their children.
Jamilatu Haruna also harped on the need for wealthy people to emulate the philanthropic gesture of the former permanent secretary to restore the eye sight of the most vulnerable in the society.
