*Admonished motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Katsina State Sector Command, has deployed no fewer than 477 personnel and 15 vehicles including ambulances to strategic roads and locations to strengthen its response in this Easter period.
The State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Ibrahim Maiyaki Bazama, in his Easter message in Katsina, noted that the agency’s operations had been stepped up to ensure free flow of traffic and accident free roads and highways across the state.
Felicitating with road users in this Easter, the Corps Commander said: “There is reduction in accident rate in the state because one of the things that I promised to do and which we are doing is aggressive public enlightenment and of course strategic patrols, that is intelligent patrols, where we target offences that are prone and people are known to be committing them.
“People are actually complying but we still emphasized them (traffic management) because there is increased movement of people in this Easter period and of course Sallah is fast approaching. I think our public awareness programme is helping us.
According to him, the increased deployment of patrol personnel to strategic locations had also been helping to reduce carnage on Katsina roads in his few months in the state.
Bazama however admonished road users to obey traffic rules and regulations aside from using good tyres installing speed limiting devices, avoiding over loading, wrongful overtaking and over speeding, saying “these are critical to safety on our roads.”
Reassuring on the command’s operations, the Corps Commander said: “In this period, we deployed ambulances and our patrol personnel are on the roads and as I speak with you, we have Zebra in Koza and all our roadside clinics are fully equipped and ready. We don’t pray for eventuality but they are there.
“We also deployed our ambulances at strategic locations in the event of anything. Our patrol men are on the roads and some are in locations that are known to have traffic gridlock to ensure that there will be free flow of traffic because that is one of the things we want to achieve.”
