*Ex-Gov Shema to quit PDP this weekend unless Ago bows to conditions
*Demands nullification of his suspension, reinstatement of sacked Katsina exco
Ex – Governor of Katsina State and former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Ibrahim Shema, intends to dump the party this weekend unless it rescinds his suspension and dissolution of the state PDP executive committee.
In Friday, March 24, 2023, letter to the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the member of Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party stated in part: “Rescind the National Working Committee (NWC) decision of unlawful dissolution of Katsina State duly elected executive committee and allow them to complete their tenure and disband the purported caretaker committee similar to which so many court decisions in the land has (have) illegalized.
“Rescind the NWC decision of my suspension as member of our party within the next 48 hours.”
Failure to effect these two changes within 48 hours, Shema warned, his letter should serve as formal and official withdrawal of membership from the party effective from Saturday, March 25, 2023.
The former governor, who revealed that he had been a loyal and dedicated party member in the past 24 years, averred that he had worked under the party’s constitution and the law.
“I cannot therefore continue to remain in the PDP under Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s law who is duly bound to preserve, protect and defend our constitution within his limited powers,” said Shema.
On the dissolution of the PDP state executive committee and appointment of a caretaker committee, he noted that “Chapter 10 of the PDP Constitution (2017) as amended (Disciplinary Procedure) particularly Sections 56 (6) (7) and Section 59 (3) were not adhered to in reaching these decisions which clearly demonstrate contempt for democracy.”
