The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has debunked newspaper report alleging that its campaign council had recognized Salisu Uli as the acting chairman of party in the state.

PDP chieftain, who spoke on the issue on the condition of anonymity, was enraged at the report published by a Lagos based newspaper, describing the report as mischievous and wilful attempt to distort facts in order to mislead Nigerians.

He told KATSINA MIRROR on Thursday that it would have been proper to ignore the the report but for the weight of the allegation and the urgent need to set the facts straight.

In its January 20, 2023, posting, the newspaper (name withheld) had alleged that the state PDP presidential and gubernatorial campaign council, otherwise known as Atiku / Lado Campaign Council recognized Salisu Uli as the acting chairman of Katsina PDP.

In his explanation, the PDP bigwig stated that the affected reporter refused to understand a press release indicating that Salisu Uli was a one time acting chairman of the Katsina chapter of the party.

Peeved over the publication, he said there is a substantive chairman of Katsina PDP, Lawal Magaji Danbachi, who coordinates all activities of the party in the state.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP dropped Uli and appointed Lawal Magaji Danbachi as substantive  chairman. So, I see no reason why something that happened in the past can be brought in now,” he insisted.

On the dispute over the appointment of Danbachi as the Katsina PDP boss, he noted that the issue was before the court, adding Danbachi has been performing all duties and activities approved by the party’s state working committee.

He expressed optimism that Uli and other members of the party would join hands for the success of all the flag bearer of the PDP in the forthcoming general polls.

Apparently irked by the said publication, he lamented: “I see no reason why that reporter from that newspaper will now bring in this controversy; honestly, it’s an uncalled for controversy.”
